Doing Better For Our Veteran’s

Because they deserve someone at their six

And 100’s of Veteran Spouses

We expect miracles because of donors just like you.

A used scooter and two nights of privacy may not seem like miracles, but they are life-affirming assistance when there is a challenge. Delivered with the respect, honor, and dignity they have earned.

Veterans Emergency Fund

Donations to the Veterans Emergency Fund are designated for immediate needs that aren't covered by existing systems, such as assisting with summer utility bills, move-in expenses, rental application fees, and other urgent needs.

Veterans Matter

From the beginning, Justa Center made Veterans a priority because they deserved better.

Hear from Justa founder, Reverend Scott Ritchey’s interview on PBS.

Since then the Veterans services and housing support have improved greatly.

Justa continues to provide support where needed to fill in the gaps.

  • The Determination to Live Independently

Julio was a proud Army veteran, a husband, a father, and now alone. He was proud to have served his country, but came home from Viet Nam a different man. After his wife died, Julio drifted into depression and self-medication with alcohol.

When Julio came to Justa Center in June of 2014, he had just completed one year of sobriety following a VA program, but had no where to call home.

Julio returned to housing in August of 2014. For the next five years, Julio was doing very well taking care of his health, reunited with his sons, and stopped by the Center often to say hello.

The next time we heard from Julio, was after a significant stroke in early 2019. He lost use of his legs and needed a wheelchair to move around. He asked for assistance in locating affordable, accessible housing where he and his adult son could live. The son provided daily care for Julio.

After helping find new housing, the Justa CARES program assigned a volunteer Ambassador of CARE who visited Julio every week to drop off some extra groceries and check in on additional needs. When Julio said he would prefer using an electric scooter because it was easier on his body, our team found and rehabbed a used scooter including a new battery.

The weekly visits from the Ambassador of the CARE Program included helping Julio get additional support and health care issues addressed through the V.A. Sadly, Julio lost his life due to ongoing health issues and COVID-19 late in 2020.

  • The Best Worst Day Possible

Steve was reasonably certain that this, his first episode of homelessness, would work out okay. The VA was helping, Justa was helping, but his PTSD couldn’t take sleeping in the shelters, so he was sleeping on the street.

Like all adults of a certain age, he was scheduled for a routine colonoscopy. In addition to all the usual fears, Steve knew taking the “go juice” and sleeping on a sidewalk would not work out well.

With funding from the Veterans Emergency Fund, Justa arranged for Steve to get two night in a motel not too far from the hospital.

The next morning, this thank you note was left for our staff:

To my kind and gracious benefactors,

Thank you so much for your assistance with my recent medical procedure.

Without your concern and charity it would have been “almost” impossible to accomplish the task under my present circumstances!

Everything went “very” smoothly and I got a clean bill of health!

My very best friend once said, “that if you do this for the least of these, you have done it for me.”

    Thank you. God Bless You
